    Description

EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY LIGHTING FIXTURES – Selections from an Early 1900 R. Williamson & Company Lamp Catalog
with an introduction and current values section by Jo Ann Thomas, Collector Books, KY, 1980.
Illustrated in color and mostly black-and-white, “This book deals with a part of the period of transition from gas to electricity—the early 1900’s though some styles such as the mission and art deco carried through into the 1920’s and a few into the early 1930’s.  Many areas at this time, did not yet have electricity and it wasn’t as reliable as it could be where it was available, hence the combination gas and electric fixtures.  The combination fixtures also meant a savings on cost and the inconvenience of installing new fixtures when electricity became available.”  The lamps selected for this volume appeared in the R. Williamson Lamp Catalog and include gas, electric, ceiling, wall, table and art glass fixtures.  Values are given as of date of publication. This book is an invaluable reference for anyone who restores old houses or collects vintage and antique lighting fixtures.
