Original 1917 French lithograph supporting the third annual defense loan, a national bond drive held during the First World War. Image shows a famous public sculpture by Jules Dalou displayed at the Place de la Nation in Paris (12th arrondissement) titled "The Triumph" and featuring Marianne, the female personification of France, leading the world toward democracy. This historical reference to the French Revolution was more important than ever in 1917, the hardest year of the war, to remind the French of the principles for which they were fighting. Dimensions are 47 x 31 inches. Newly linen backed (10 oz cotton canvas + 100 lb cotton paper) and acid-neutralized. Excellent condition.
