THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO SHOT GLASSES
by Mark Pickvet, Antique Publications, OH, 1992.
This book is the second identification guide by the author.  The first, published in 1989, depicted and discussed about 1,000 shot glasses.  This book makes corrections to the previous volume, repeats as few as possible and still finds another thousand or so!  With delightful hand-drawn illustrations, this text supports chapter coverage such as What, precisely, is a shot glass?  (Not a toothpick holder?)  Based on findings from a newsletter of The Shot Glass Club of America in Flint, MI, this book focuses on “whiskey sample glass collectors, cut glass collectors, Depression Glass, advertising, souvenir or tourist glasses, sports, universities, pewter, foreign, patterns” and covers mainly the 20th century developments within social contexts of the temperance movement, the beat generation, the radicals of the 60’s, up to present times.  All in all, if you are a collector or admirer of shot glasses, this companion volume to the earlier addition makes a wonderful supplement to a reference library but also stands on its own as an informative and good-humored guide to collecting.
