*WORLD WAR I* vintage FRANCE militaria "FRAMED SOUVENIR HANDKERCHIEF"                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               This is an original World War I souvenir handkerchief made in France circa 1918 as a memento for soldiers to carry, mail to loved ones, or frame upon returning home. Handkerchief is made of silk and measures approximately 12" x 12" with lithographed images of military and political leaders, weapons of war, and flags of the warring nations. Mounted on a red felt background under glass, this antique keepsake shows vivid colors, graphics, and French print reading: "Souvenir de la Grande Guerre 1914-1918". Only minor wear and staining are visible as cloth appears well-preserved including the original fold lines from when it was pocket sized. Wooden frame has outside dimensions of 16 1/4" x 13 1/4" with a loosened cardboard backer.
